Quick synopsis: Bought a bike and let it sit. Plenty of excuses, but long story short is I didn't educate myself on proper care or maintenance and now the bike and my wallet are paying for it.
Bike wouldn't even start when I first tried. No power. Tried to recharge the battery with a trickle charger. No dice. Got a new battery and finally got lights and such to come on. Did a little reading and used what little knowledge I did have to check a few parts. Had to replace the petcock (horrible corroded) and the spark plugs (burnt out). Bike turns on and tries to start but it's not getting fuel (best as I can tell). Kept trying to sit down and work on it, had plans to rebuild the carb. Was never able to do so and finally got tired of having it sit there so I took it in to a bike shop. Paying much more than I would like for them to basically rebuild the carb, but they are also saying that it needs a new fuel tank and they want to charge me $450 for the tank alone.
I told them to go ahead and work on the carb and I would get back to them on the fuel tank. I found a few on ebay at decent prices ($120-150). My primary concern is that the seller is reputable and I'm not buying subpar parts. usamotorsportsfactory has 99.6% positive feedback, but I've also learned not to believe everything I read. Has anyone had any dealings with this seller/company? Or any advice on a different way to handle this situation?
Thanks in advance.
Note: The tank does not match my bike, color-wise, but I'm not worried about cosmetics right now. I'll deal with all of that after I have a working, rideable, bike.
