Absolutely no shame in letting a pro handle it. I do not do well with certain jobs (i do not do tires) and i let a friend who has a shop do that for me. This is a fun and rewarding pastime so if becomes un-fun let someone else do it!!

Alright, clutch has been replaced.

took a trip from NYC to Philly and back via route 1 recently, speed limits are about 50mph so naturally people drive 65mph+ which the rebel holds well.

now, I got rear ended tonight cruising around the city. It was a slow speed bump that bent my license plate bracket. Looks like this bracket connects just under the rear fender by two screw mounts with rubber dampers in-between.

Through and through, I don’t see any damage to the rear fender body. Only the license bracket screw mounts, inside the fender, are a little warped. I did what I could to pull it into shape.

not sure if this is something anyone else has experienced?

Cage drivers are out there trying to kill us imo.

License plate bracket mounting uses 3 bolts, left, right, & top center..
It also acts as rear lighting junction box, pita to remove with tire on but it can be done..
been there, done that...

Note part #s 17, 21, 28 all make up the (3) each required metal collars, rubber dampers, and bolts for mounting the bracket.

Removing plastic bottom of junction box you will find electrical connectors are stuffed into two rubber sock like covers..

Yeah thats it, looks like this thing kinda acts like a little bumper too based off last nights experience.

The driver wanted to blame me for being in the center of the road at the light, where cars ‘should be’, and not to the right where the scooters and bicycles ride. A very NYC concept of road hierarchy by our drunk inquisitor. I could smell the booze on the guy when he approached me after the hit.

I had to ask him “Did you hit me because you thought I was a scooter?”.

Glad that you are ok! And the Rebel.

Definitely a time to get the police involved & I hope you did. With an attitude like that & the alcohol, the person will do it again & probably worse to the next biker. One of those "Unless punishment is executed speedily" situations.

Hey folks, to add to the list… I’ve got an oil leak from the left side engine crankcase. The bike had a light smoke, burning smell as I pulled into park. As I was checking around the engine a stream of oil poured for a second from below my left peg.

Looks to be a common occurrence but what does this repair entail? Im guessing theirs an oring or seal that can bulge due to engine pressure? Is this something I can just pushback in?

I plan on draining the puketube but have read that theres a crankcase vacuum tube too?

the bikes been riding for maybe 300 miles since my last oil change. Figured if I had overfilled it I’d have had an oil leak sooner?

The leak from the left side is most likely the crank seal- a $5 seal that can be changed in an hour or so….the seal is behind the starter clutch assembly. You can research here or on YouTube to get a tutorial on the procedure. The seal failure is often caused by oil overfilling- 1.6 qts ONLY!!

Hey folks, how is everyone? I ended up having a local shop replace the crank seal. That was about 1000 miles ago.

well, today I noticed some oil leaking out of the same spot, left side crankcase.

After doing some research I came across the need to drain the puketube, which I’ve never done. I pulled the cap off the puketube and a lot of liquid came out. The puddle was about a foot in diameter and full of grime.

I took the bike for a ride and parked it. A few hours later I came out to see a very small puddle of oil had leaked but considerably less than earlier today. This new spot is about an inch in diameter.

wish I’d known but now I’m curious if the crank seal is needing to be replaced again? Or can it be re-seated? Does oil leaking from the left side crankcase mean the seal is compromised?
