Took the bike to work first time. Driving thru a wooded development ahead I could see deer grazing on the sides of the road .As I slowly approached a big doe walked across in front to the right side of my lane of me and stopped to watch me. I slowed to a crawl and stayed in the outside part of my lane as I drove by her a few feet away. Deer on both sides one next to me, glad I stayed in my lane as a SUV came blasting past me from behind just as I passed the deer. The deer stayed calm glad they didn't scatter. The deer will be an everyday occurance, the real danger will come when the bucks start rutting, chasing does and running blindly across roads.

Sounds like the deer in your area are used to traffic. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad. In my area they panic and leap out into the road anyway. That's how I hit one.

Glad you came out contact free, lets hope it stays that way.

Sounds like your deer are more like the ones in my area. There are enough of them, enough traffic and enough carcases in the ditch that you'd think natural selection would have sorted it out by now. However they are random as squirrels, another species one would think would have caught on by now. Since I've had a series of unfortunate encounters with both I do my best to try not to contribute to the human part of this experiment. :nonono: :lol2:

Deer are totally illogical and unpredictable. they are just as likely to leap in front of your bike as to shy away from it. Slow right down if there are deer that can get to you.

You laugh, but... when I lived in New York State (upstate, away from the maddening crowds), I heard a story about a State Trooper that arrested a "hunter" from NYC -- seems the guy loaded up his gear and headed up I-87 north, until he saw a Deer Crossing sign. At that point, he pulled onto the shoulder and backed up about a quarter mile, parked the car, got out his rifle and shells, donned his fluorescent orange vest and cap, and hiked up the berm and started watching for deer.

The guy was so intent, peering through that scope waiting for the literate deer to cross adjacent to the sign, that he didn't even hear the Trooper, who had parked behind the guys car and climbed up the berm behind him... it is unclear exactly what transpired next, but suffice it to say that that particular gentleman now understands that deer probably do not pay much attention to those Deer Crossing signs. The state also saw fit to rescind that fellow's hunting license.
