I wouldn't take the chance of leaving the beg supports out as they keep the beg from the exhaust and maybe even the tires.I had a friend who had that happen to him and he went down on the freeway in front of a big rig and was lucky the truck driver was watching him and he came out ok.I dont know about these begs as for me I went to Honda and found begs that fit the rebel 250 and they work very well:greetings10:

 

I dont like them because they have no way of keeping out water in the event of an errant rain storm. this will become important very quickly in bad weather. Mine have a flap that folds forward and snaps shut, then you close the main flap. if this isnt clear I will post pics of mine soon.

I would suggest these. its a better overall design. as far as size, get the dimensions off the site and pull out the tape measure. also, GET A SET SADDLE BAG SUPPORTS! You will be kicking yourself in the butt when you grind away at the leather you just paild all that money for on the rear wheel. also gives you something to atatch the bags to so they dont flop around when you lean

A set of saddlebags only need to fulfill you personal needs, leather, hard, Pleather, or even ammo cans. The supports- guards are a must. I was in sturgis a few years ago when a guys saddle bags got into the rear wheel, HE DID NOT SURVIVE.

 

I'm thinking about ammo cans and then mounting the rear lights into the back of the cans.

 

I've been toying with the idea myself. They can be locked, they are waterproof, and plenty durable. I have a few months of winter to work on the mounting and lighting aspects. My rear junction box needs to be replaced anyway, so this winter is the likely time to do it. Anyone have a link to rear turn signal lights suitable for mounting on ammo boxes? I guess it's time for me to bite the bullet, and get into the LED wiring thing. As long as I'm doing it, I want to make my signals as big and visible as I can.

 

the only problem I have found with the ammo cans is if you cant find them locally, It costs as much or more to ship them as it does to pay for them. When you do decide to get the cans, let me know what size you get.

 

Try a search on ebay for "ammo bag". Take a look at the swiss ammo bag especially, what do you think?

 

There are a couple military surplus stores near here. One that sells lots of containers of various description. Next time I visit, I'll take notes. Maybe they can give some insight to finding what you want locally. Obviously, shipping on bulky items is not cheap.

 

Love my milk crate. Since taking this photo I've upgraded to a double-wide milk crate. With a spider web bungie it's a mule.

Ammo cans tend to corrode. But on the good side they are water tight.

 

empty, they are only a few lbs each. I noticed absolutely no difference when I removed my sissy bar. 2 or 3 lbs really isnt going to make a difference in performance.
