I bought my Rebel 16ish years ago, and the previous owner had put straight pipes on it. I thought it was badass when I was 17, not really into it anymore. I posted a while back about baffles, which I eventually bought and installed, and sadly they did absolutely nothing to silence this can of angry bumblebees. I found a set of OEM mufflers online that were chopped off a bike, and when looking at the photos I'm a bit confused about how I should weld them back onto my pipes after I chop the straight pipes off. What's going on with the pipe within the pipe before it goes into the muffler? I just assumed it would be:
1. Cut old pipe
2. Align replacement muffler.
3. Weld

How the heck does one go about welding these up?

That inside pipe goes from the engine to the muffler. To properly weld that you would need to cut back a band of the outer pipe on both parts, weld the inner pipes then weld a band on the outer pipe to cover the gap.
