Hey yall I just got my first bike it's an '86 rebel 450. I got it on a trade and the guy had lost the key. I made a spare that worked temperamentally but I couldnt open the gas cap. I bought a new switch and gas cap but all the wires are black or black and white except one. Can anyone help me with wiring it up, I'm trying to get it inspected asap.

The key code can be found under the ignition switch, helmet locks and fork lock. It's usually a letter and three or four numbers If you already have the ignition switch out, fine. If the ignition switch hasn't been removed, the fork lock is the easiest to get to. Turn the forks all the way to one side and remove retaining bolt. Repeat for the other side. A good locksmith should be able to make a replacement key with the code. So can a Honda dealer, but it will cost much more.

The old switch has already been removed and it wasn't fixable. I have a wiring diagram and I'm pretty certain it should be wired right but I get lights and it doesnt crank. When I push the start button it just does nothing .
