Had my oil changed today and the mechanic put slightly to much in, on one side of the stick its about normal on the other side its about one 8th of an inch over , after the hash marks there is a raised smooth area the oil covers that area on one side, is this dangerous for the engine , should i ask him to drain a bit of it out? iv been to Honda dealerships more then once and they had done the same thing 2014 CMX-250.

If it's just slightly over the hash marks, as you describe, I wouldn't worry about it. But if it is more than that or concerns you, you can siphon some out into a clean container (use a clear tube so you don't get a mouthful of oil!). If you draw out too much, you can add some from the container.

There is a smooth area above the hash marks before the raised ridges on the dip stick that round smooth area is covered with oil on one side of the stick about an 8th of an inch up or so. Thanks that's a good idea about siphoning a little out , the only thing i am concerned about is it damaging the engine. And sometimes if i lean the bike a bit over to the left both sides are normal sitting on the bike its hard to tell weather i am leaning the bike to far over to the left or right , its to bad that the rebel does not come with a center stand to make it easier to adjust the chain and check the oil being sure that the bike is level as it should be.

I doubt that little bit of overage is going to cause a problem.

Some members have adapted a (cm250?) centerstand on their Rebels. We had a member here who made a very good centerstand for the Rebel, but I don't think he's doing it any longer.

I'm confused. If the bike is standing straight up when you check the oil, per the manual, how is it higher on one side of the dip stick than the other? That only happens if it is incorrectly leaning on the kickstand.

The reason that it matters if the oil level is too high is that the pressure pulses will be higher in the crankcase due to the reduced air volume, which has been known to blow the left side oil seal.

I recommend that you check the oil level again with the bike standing straight up on a level surface, and the dip stick just sitting on the threads, NOT screwed in. It should then be the same on each side of the dipstick. If it is still high remove some with a hose connected to a turkey baster until it is even with the top of the cross hatches.

If it were just slightly above the hash marks, like a 1/16 of an inch, it should be ok. More than that and I would be taking some out. One way I have removed small amounts of excess oil is to connect a small hose to a spray bottle pump, like say the pump and straw from an empty Windex bottle, stick it in the engine, and start pulling the trigger. Hold the nozzle over a cup or jar. If you have the patience, you can even take a piece of clean plastic tubing, stick it down in the crankcase, hold your finger over the end to create a vacuum, and pull out the tubing. Hold it over a container, and remove your finger, the oil in it will run out.
