Hello all! My names Joe, ive recently bought a rebel 250, it may be a cmx? Its beat to hell as it was a school training bike before so im replacing some parts! My signals are solid and not flashing, my relay box is attached to my battery. I bought a new one but its not an exact fit. Does it need to be attached to the batery?
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! I don’t know of a rebel that had the flasher unit attached to the battery. When you say “relay box “ I assume you are referring to the flasher unit? I always try to get the flasher unit working by smacking it with the handle of a screwdriver. Amazing how often that works :) If you need help figuring something out (most of us do) you can help us help you with information. What year bike? What is the exact problem? Pictures are always helpful.

No the relay if you mean turn signal flasher relay should not attach to battery..
It should attach to solid black circuit wire in wire harness, that way it will be in key activated & fused circuit as was designed by Honda.
but sure you can wire directly to battery and any short could burn up the entire main harness.

You don't indicate what year Rebel you have..
I assume it's a second generation 96-2016 which has a different wiring arrangement than 1st gen 85-87. Both electrical schematics can be found in Electrical, Charging and Battery sub section of this forum..

The starter relay is conntcted directly to the battery. 1st gen, the relay is to the left of rhe battery. 2nd gen is apparently to the right. How is your battery voltage?

definitely a 2nd gen Rebel
you are looking at starter relay in the image..
The signal relay can be accessed by removing seat found approx 7" down left side attached to frame tube by rubber mount behind the left side helmet lock..

I replaced my flasher relay with an electronic one, no problems since.

As SoakedKarma said, it is under the front seat, under the rubber air intake, under the mid splice point.

I didn't attach the new one like the old one was connected, it fits snug enough down in there.

Oh yeah. Welcome to the forum!

The year & month of manufacture is on the plate on the steering column for accurate date when it was made.
