I'm new to the reb and need help figuring out what size chain/sprockets to buy.

I've been looking at 525 chains and don't know how many links to get and what size sprockets to get.. I'd prefer a config that gives me max performance

Thanks for your help!

As issued by Honda, the Rebel has a 108 link 520 chain with a 14 tooth front sprocket and 33 tooth rear. Some here have gone to 14/30 15/31, etc. It doesn't improve mileage or top speed, just changes the gear ratios.

Another reason to put your bike info in your signature. I see you had it in the title, but I missed it. I assumed you had a Rebel 250 and gave you the info for that bike. The 525 chain is heavier than a 520. A 520 chain won't fit a 525 sprocket and vice versa.

If no one here can provide the correct number of links, you can count the links on the old one.

A typical generic chain will have to be shortened to fit anyway. You can just fit it up, mark the break point and break it with a chain breaker if you have access to one, or with a grinding wheel (much more tedious) if you don't.
I like to break the old chain and then pull the new one into place using the master link hooked to the new one.

The chain you get will come with more links than you need. You will need to remove a few to get it to the correct (112 or whatever it is) length.

I see you found the answer on your own pretty quickly.

I recommend that all 450 owners buy a service manual. It can answer all those technical questions quicker that a forum member.

As a result the rest of us forum members don't feel like we let you down b/c you didn't get your answer as quick as you expected. And you are guaranteed to get the correct answer too!
