Hello, my name is Max and I am from Kansas. I've been a 2T motorscooter enthusiast for a few years and I'm currently transitioning to motorcycles. I'm here because I am looking for good advice on how to fix up the Rebel I've got my hands on, and to see what other Rebel owners are doing with their bikes. I eventually would like to move up to a larger Honda, but for now all I've got is this little 250. I'm interested in standards and cruisers, with an eye toward getting a late 70s or early 80s standard Honda.
Hi, just joined the forum. Have enjoyed reading all the helpful info on this site. I'm in NE Louisiana and just bought a blue 2001 Rebel with 6,000 miles on it for $1,000. I'm 61 and have never had a motorcycle. My fear of injury was outweighed by the price of gas! Have been riding it on some land I have. Passed the written motorcycle test today and will be taking the safety course soon.
Pretty sure everything on the bike is original. Need to replace the tires and have already swapped the plugs. The local bike shop wanted $35 each to mount the new tires I am getting online. That seemed pretty steep, so I'm bidding on a set of motorcycle tire irons. One thing I want to do is be able to carry some things on the bike. The small luggage rack available for the bike is too small to handle much of anything, so I'm fabricating one from aluminum that will extend from just behind the driver's seat out over the passenger seat and slightly beyond. Also thinking about making some aluminum panniers for waterproof storage. I'm technologically challenged on the computer, so doubt I'll be able to post pictures unless I get my daughter-in-law or grandkids to do it.
Again, thanks for providing all this helpful information. It has already made this novice's experience of working on the bike a more pleasant one.
Took my MSF class a month ago and now am the proud owner of a 2008 Honda Rebel. Bought it for riding around town and potential commuting bike for work. Any riding advice you can give would be great.
Welcome, There is tons of good info in the site, and a lot of good people to answer questions. Enjoy the site, and post some pics of your bike for everyone to see.
Hi,
I just got my 2002 rebel 250 and have been excitedly riding it for a few weeks. I haven't done any maintenance on it, but it came in tiptop shape. I have been reading a lot about replacing the rear sprocket to a 30 tooth. If I can get it at a dealer, can anybody post instructions here on how to replace it? How much should a dealer be charging me to install it?
Thanks,
Hi,
I'm the proud new owner of a 2002 Rebel cmx 250. I'll post some pics of my baby soon.
I wanted to change the rear sprockets to a 30 teeth one as I've been hearing a lot about those. but have no idea how. Can anybody post instructions as to how I can do this myself? Also, can anybody suggest a good place to get a manual on the bike? Mine (used) didn't come with one.
Thanks,
I have a 2000 Honda Rebel. Unfortunately I am in the process of trying to sell my bike
I really don't want to, but I have to get a car and can't afford to keep both.
I was giving it a bath yesterday and getting it all cleaned up. Now it will only start when it's in nuetral. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what I might have done.
The bike will not start in gear if the kick stand is down. Or its possible one of the little plugs on the handle bar controls could have gotten pulled loose.

Hello, everyone. Thanks for letting me join in. A friend just bought a 2004 Rebel (250cc), and I'm helping him tinker with it. He's about 40, and it's his first bike since he was a teenager. We're shade tree mechanics. Me, ...I'm retired, wanting to ride again, too. I've got two old Suzuki X6's I'd like to bring back to life: a 1966 Suzuki X6 Hustler, and a 1967 X6 Scrambler. The first one I bought new when I was a teenager. That was a looong time ago. Can you believe I've still got that thing, and it's all in one piece?! The second one is in boxes, but I can tell it wants to run again, too.
Here, I just wanted to give an initial hello to everyone. We need some carburetor advice about the Rebel. I'll post my request and the details on a different part of this forum (wrenching?). We "worked" on it this weekend, and now it's worse than it was. Ha!
Hey, some of you guys come on down to Texas and ride with us! The weather is nice, and we're pretty hospitable.
Hey Ralph and freind... welcome to the site. Update your profile with location and maybe post a picture of the bike so we can see it. I too originate from Texas, Richardson/Plano area. Dad lives in Sherman. Stepson lives in White Settlement so maybe this year I when I make my annual migration to TX we can get together.
Just wanted to stop in and say thanks for the Rebel site. You guys (and gals) have added alot of info that keeps us all well informed. SOOOO appreciate it.
I have a 05' Rebel 250 - would've gotten a 450 but they don't make em' like they used to.
I actually was looking around for a HD that would fit me like a glove, and they just don't make what I was looking for. Came across the Rebel during
my MC Safety course & fell in LOVE! Went online & looked up stats & bought one that following spring.
My Mr. & the boys we ride with are all on bigger HD's but I don't hesitate to jump into the pack & ride with the group. This little Rebel was almost made for me personally & fits like a glove. Alot of women in our area ride their hubby's scoot, or buy one as big as his....I've ridden with the ladies as a group, and it's a foul situation. Bikes are too big, and most of these girls aren't trained enough to handle touchy situations. But on my Rebel, I can
and do handle whatever I face when I hit the blacktop.
Will be moving onto a Shadow eventually (maybe), and passing the Rebel to
my 16 yr old daughter. She's excited. (I may have to buy a new one & give
her my other - don't know if I'll be able to part with my little "bug" runner.
Hi everybody, just joined the forum because seems to have alot of good information here. I started riding in 1970 and owned many bikes. I had some very fast bikes for that era. Then when I got married I stopped riding on the street. Yep, I'm an older guy, 53, and have missed having a street bike for a long time, but I don't really have the desire to go fast like I used to. So I bought a 2005 Rebel in december, the first street bike since 1982. I got it mostly for short rides around home and plan to customize it some. Have'nt rode it much yet due to the cold weather but it will warm up soon.
Hi, I'm 33 and am finally enjoying the open road. I took the MSF class in February and then bought a 2009 Honda Rebel a couple of weeks ago. Every night I can, I go out for practice rides in the neighborhood. I slowly worked my way out to the major cross roads as I got more comfortable and gained more confidence.
Today, my husband and I took our first ride together. He's been riding since college and has a Ducati. I'm sure I slow him down a bit, but that's probably a good thing.
It was the longest and fasted ride to date, and it was great.
Looking forward to this summer !
I live in Los Gatos, hope to see you out on the road. - Jenn
Welcome to the freedom of the open road and this forum, Jenn! Sounds like a good start. Should probably know where Los Gatos (the cats?) is (NM, CA?), but must confess I'm not sure. There is a feature here that allows you to post your location in the upper right corner of the box. Can also place a pin on the forum map. Enjoy your Rebel; it's a great, nimble, bike.
