Welcome to the forum. Have you taken a basic rider training course? It's the best way to learn to ride.

Yes, well I tried. Everyone had logged miles and I had none. I will do it again after I have the experience needed. A few friends have offered to help me get started. It’s great the way bikers help bikers.

There really isn't any experience needed to take the course other than being able to ride a bicycle. Statistics show that professionally trained riders have fewer, less severe, accidents than self/friend/family member taught riders.

I began riding before taking the course (self taught). During the course, I learned I had developed several bad habits, which I still struggle with.

I do intend to retake the safety course. I didn’t want to ride if I can’t ride safely.

Just curious.

Did you take the MSF course or the Total Control one?

Don't get too discouraged by failing the first time.

I took the Total Control course in PA and failed. My class had about a 50% or better failure rate. It is not as simple as many people say it is.
At the location I was at, the instructors were very hurried and did not really take much time to show us how to perform the skills they were attempting to teach us.

They are good classes to take and I did learn some skills. However after I more seat time this summer I will decide if I will try the Total Control again or just go to the DMV.

"Ride like a Pro" is a GREAT video to watch and learn from.
The DVD is well worth it. That guy knows how to teach.
