float bowl gasket

Just took carb apart to clean and found its float bowl gasket in a state of being "disolved"...possibly by carb cleaner or something previous owner put in gastank?

Question...in lieu of spending the $ on a new gasket or gasket set, can I use a gasket sealer (like a Permtex product) to help what's left of the OEM gasket make a leak proof seal?

Anyone ever used a gasket sealer on this type thing?

Probably not the best choice. The bowl gasket should be fairly inexpensive

As stated they are only a few $. You get them at your Honda dealer. May not be in stock but they can get it in a couple of days. I got one when I cleaned my carb.

Don't use RTV silicone! It tends to flake off and mess up the jets. Get the stock gasket; it will be well worth whatever it costs.

Yup.. I agree with the guys... you won't save buy using a sealer you will only end up at best having to do it all over again.. but you are also running the risk of doing damage to the jets and such...

I used indian head shellac on mine. Says its resistant to petroleum products, so I guess we will see what happens. Its only been a week but so far all is well. Granted this is on my rat bike that I dont buy new parts for anymore.

hey guys, i just bought a gasket set from the dealer (part # 16010-mm2-671).. it cost $30 and three weeks later when it came in, there is only one in there and a couple of small orings... now i need another stinking gasket... what a ripoff

should two of them be $60, really?

did i just get raped by the dealer?

i am so sorry about the thread jack...

i was haoping to not go bankrupt in trying to clean my carb... do your dealers give you better deals... wow... i feel used

I think I paid $25 for my carb kit off Ebay and it had more parts than that in it.

I got mine from Vintage Motorcycle, Motorcycle, Harley-Davidson, ATV, Dirt Bike, Snowmobile, PWC / Watercraft Parts, Apparel, and Accessories

Float bowl gasket part number is GASKET, FLOAT CHAMBER
16163-HM7-700 Should only be $7.62.

One old trick is to buy a spool of o-ring material and make your own float bowl gaskets. The old timers around here say to use a sharp razor blade and crazy glue the ends together. Lightly sand to smooth the seam afterward.
