At my wit's end trying to check the main fuse.

My assumption is that this red wiring harness is pulled out to expose the main fuse. Can't remove the wiring harness for the life of me. Want to verify that squeezing the two red clips and pulling up is what I should be doing here.

2007 Rebel with a new battery that won't start (no lights)

yup, squeeze and pull - the connection is under the wires in the back of the plug so try wiggling front and back

I was able to force it after a long while. Is there any lubricant or grease that could be used on these contacts to prevent this from seizing again?

Dielectric grease should work.
