bar-end mirrors?

5153 Views 10 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Emil
I'm thinking about putting some bar-end mirrors on my 250. There are several sets for 7/8'' bars on ebay for like $20

I'm worried that, given the curve of the stock handlebar, I won't be able to see anything.

Has anyone put these on the stock handlebar?

How well did it work?

I don't have any, but those I've seen were able to swivel quite a bit. You could check with the seller and see what kind of adjustment they have. That said, for safety reasons, there won't be any on my bikes. These mirrors are small, and you won't be able to see much behind or beside you, which is the reason for having mirrors in the first place. You have to see a dangerous situation in order to avoid it.
check your state for size first. some require a certain sqaure inches for inspection. That said, even if you don't have a state inspection, small mirrors cut down on your safety net even further. I had a set of 'custom chopper mirrors' that were about 1.5" x 3". Couldn't see squat...

I had them on one of my bikes and liked 'em. Mine were facing up though. I couldnt get a clear view with them under the bar. Mirror faces were about 3 1/2 inches in diameter and I had good rear vision with em. Dont short change yourself on what the hecks coming up behind you. As for style, to each his own in my book.

Does anyone have recommendatins for regular mirrors that'll fit on the rebel?

I don't know why, but I can't stand the stock mirrors. They look like antennae to me.
^ I like the rectangular stockers - except for the, yep, upright 'antennae' position. They give me a great view of my shoulders. I'd like to put them in a vise and bend them over but that'll probably crack the chrome.

I had rectangular bar-end mirrors on my first bike (GS450S) but had to pull them in to split traffic. I liked them then but wouldn't even consider them today.
If you like the shape of the stock mirrors you can get new risers to change the position and look of them.

there are a ton of mirrors out there, but most will require metric adapters to make them work (about $10).
I believe our mirrors have 10mm mounts. Any mirror with those mounts, or with an adapter, will work.
I've got some on mine, I gotta look down to see behind me. They work well, but adds too much reaction time. If you look in them, then have to immediately look up to avoid a hazard, it could be too late in some circumstances.
Shortest distance between the mirrors and road is best. Your eyes move quicker than your head.
