Another new guy

After going about 30 years without riding, I bought an 86 250 Rebel. I was bored and saw it on marketplace for $400. Guy bought it 6 years ago and could not get it running. I checked for spark and it was there. Then I looked at the air filter. Packed solid with a mouse nest. Cleaned that out and hooked up a gas tank from a mower and it started right up and idled. Had to get it warmed up before it would accelerate. Ended up taking the carb off and cleaning out the jets. Now it runs around the block great. Too cold to go very far. Any way I am here and may or may not be posting for help. Just need to ride it some to see how much help I need.

Just want to say, I think this is a great site. I am leaving because I sold the Rebel today. It is a great bike but at 70 years old I probably do not need to be riding. It has been fun.
There are others in their 80s that are still here & still riding. I'm a baby boomer myself so getting up there too.
It's the other drivers that scare me.. I'm at the point of selling mine too.

Yes, traffic can be scary. I decided to list it and ride it until it sold or just keep riding if it did not sell. Unfortunately it sold in one day. Also got great $$$$ out of the Rebel.

No one has tried to kill me this month, but I live in Amish country now. Only one time did a buggy almost do me in.

Last week 3 motorcyclists crashed into a buggy. It was primarily the bikers fault. They were all passing in an intersection as the buggy was turning left.

I've read a study that said around 90% off motorcycle collisions are caused by the other vehicle. These 3 are bringing the averages down by their disregard for "common"(not) sense.
We have an Amish community just north of here, maybe 80 miles or so. Before I69 was built it was slow going through the 2 lane road.
Sorry to see you go, youngster.

I hated to sell but I think it was the right thing to do. I hate that I could not offer any good help on this forum. Seems to be some very good people here.
As an experienced rider, you can still be of much assistance, even if you no longer ride.

If you change your mind about riding, there are usually a Rebel or two available.

Yes, it is a possibility. They seem to bring good money around here. Mine was a fixer upper so I got it cheap and had a nice bike for little $$$. Hard to believe how many responses I got from my ad. I may have to look for another fixer upper.
There are a few active members that do just that. Please always inform them of this forum. If they ever want to sell, those here will absolutely take care of them.
