This is a truly amazing story... I can't copy it, but it's worth signing up to the Wall Street Journal for two weeks just to read it.
If you're interested enough to sign up, here's the link. If you already read the WSJ online, here's the link to the article. You'll probably have to log in. There are lots of slides, a great story, and an amazing journey outlined. Even though this isn't a trip for our Honda Rebels, perhaps we'll have a Honda like this guy's Honda Transalp 650 some day.
If you can read Spanish, you're in luck and can go to his own site (in Argentina) called http://www.americaendosruedas.com/ or as we say here, "America on Two Wheels." Unfortunately, all of the pics on his site have watermarks on them big enough and glaring enough that you can hardly see the pics! I suppose the WSJ was given permission to use a dozen or so of them without watermarks. The story is a great read.
You can struggle through these pages using Yahoo Babelfish, but boy does it return rough English! If you're bilingual, Spanish and English, you could contact Ivan Pisarenko at ivanpisarenko@gmail.com and offer to do his pages in English. That would benefit loads of riders, be a real nice thing to do for Ivan, and earn you lots of good karma to boot.
Anyway, here's a short blurb snatched from the article.
From the Wall Street Journal, Jan. 7th, 2010:
This post took some time. I hope some of you get to check out the WSJ article. Makes you wanna get out and ride, even if like here in Oklahoma the current weather is 14ºF with a windchill of -10ºF!
Anyone in North Texas or Southern Oklahoma riding in this weather? :sign0138: Not me!

From the Wall Street Journal, Jan. 7th, 2010:
BUENOS AIRES -- In 2005, a year from finishing law school, Ivan Pisarenko got restless. The 33-year-old Argentine decided to take a break for a very big motorcycle road trip, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego.
The approximately 17,000-mile journey was supposed to take nine months. But because of detours involving Mexican bandits, Salvadoran rock stars and Colombian soldiers, Mr. Pisarenko still hasn't completed the trip four years later. At one point, he was hit by an Ecuadorean SUV, and upon his return to Argentina in October, he had his bike confiscated by customs officials.
