85 Rebel to bobber

Hello everyone. I have a 1985 rebel that I am turning into a bobber and need some help. I can't figure out what size tires to get for the new look. I want them as big as I can go. I took off the fenders and am going to leave them off. I also want them to have white walls for old school look. Then there's the seat issue.. I want to get a springer seat but don't know what I can use. Any help would be appreciated. BTW this forum is amazing learned so much from you all. Oh and one more thing I want to order new bars from zombie, I like the drag bars but they come in different sizes. What size would I need to keep the stock buttons and such. Thanks again

A 150/90/15 will fit without the fenders and chain guard. That's the smallest 15" tire available with wide white walls. I'm pretty sure there isn't an 18" tire with www that will fit the front. Mother Road Customs makes good quality leather solo seats, Mother Road Customs. You need a seat and a mounting kit, LaRosa makes a mounting kit that will work on your Rebel. Zombie Performance makes great quality handlebars but I'd have them make something a little more interesting then drag bars.

thanks for the fast reply. What do you think I should put in the front that would look good with 150 in the back? And I have never seen any of these bars so I'm not sure what it will look like this is my first build. What would you recommend? I'm 6 foot 1 and I don't like ape hangers.
If you absolutely have to have white walls you can buy white wall inserts and put them on any size tire PORTAWALLSHOP, WHITEWALL, CLASSIC TIRE INSERTS FREE SHIPPING ;side wall,  port-a-wall, port-o-wall, tire insert, whitewall, tyre insert, tire line, tire trim. Zombie Performance will build any style of bars you want, if you have an idea for bars they will build them or you can look at their website and pick some you like and they will build them to your specs. That's what I did, I liked the Wingus bars they made so I gave them the dimensions I wanted them to be and they built them for me.

oh that's awesome! I didn't know they will custom bars for you. Now I just have to figure out what in the hell I want. Not even sure to be honest. I do kinda like the zombie zeez wide. And the white walls are just stick on?
No they're not stick on they fit between the tire bead and the rim.
I took off the fenders and am going to leave them off.
There's dismantling and there's bobbing. The terms are not interchangeable...but here's some further food for thought for fans of the fenderless:

First response in this thread ought to answer that one:

After that, google Port-o-walls.
A seller on eBay has a ton of 3.00-18 WW Bando tires for $20 bucks each. The problem, they are 40 years old and unusable. Sucks they wasted away on a shelf somewhere.

Wow that's pricey for a rear tire. I found one for $130 it's a 150/90 - 15. Does anyone here have experience with suicide shifters and riding position?

Got another one for you guys. I painted the rim spokes last week with 3 layers of black and 2 maybe 3 of clear. Less then a week later it seems like a bit of the paint is chipping here and there. What am I doing wrong? I first sanded it then cleaned it well then taped it off and sprayed it. Let it cure for 3 days before clearing it . it's chipping some on a few spokes and the back of the hub.

Whats the info on the tire you found? Link?

Lack of primer?
That's a very good point. To be honest I didn't even know they had primer in a can and that it was even used.
Another thought, and Duckster or anyone else with actual engineering experience can confirm or deny this theory: spokes flex. Maybe not enough to detect with the naked eye, but I'm guessing they flex as the wheel encounters rough road inconsistencies. That flex could be enough to chip the paint.
Interesting idea Shack. Paint flexes too to some extent, depending on its composition.
hence you can put quite a dent in a car fender without breaking the paint.
Spokes are loaded purely in tension, so they stretch slightly under loading, A good quality paint should be OK with this, except at the joints between the nipple and the spoke and wheel. If you ever have to adjust the spoke, you may break the paint both with the wrench on the flats, and at those joints.
