Hey guys I have a 1982 Honda cm 250c and I just replaced the head and cam chain on it now that I put it back together I can’t get the cam chain tensioner to take the slack out of the chain. What would be causing this? Could it be my chain is too big? I bought an ome one so I’m stumped. I wasn’t for sure it I was not engaging the tensioner correctly.

Ok I did that it looks to be the same size. So I guess I’m not engaging the tensioner correctly not sure what I’m doing wrong. I lined up the bolts and screwed them into the tensioner.

With the valve train cover off can you pry the tensioner forward to engage with the new cam chain? Sometimes the tensioner rod has been galled by it's set screw and needs to be disassembled, possibly filed or sanded then sanded smoother and smoother and possibly polished to allow the tensioner to be moved forward under spring pressure without binding.
