2012 q

For those of you with the gun-metal OEM paint scheme, is this is a matte color or gloss? I have to ask as the one I acquired is rather sun-faded, even for a matte color...so I was curious how the original luster really was. I mean I've left vehicles out in our beating sun for more than four years and none of them faded like this. ;)

Sounds like it is a prime candidate for bobbing, err I mean uh ... Dismantling, sawzalling, and rattle canning. >:)

I like this idea. Show us how to really do it wrong Shadow!

LOL I'm really not going to get serious with the bike until I have a title, and depending on which title I can get (salvage or clean) will determine the direction it goes. Worst case scenario is no title and it gets parted out, AKA dismantled sans sawzall & rattle can. ;)

<bump>

There was a slew of 2012 gunmetal grey owners when I posted this, and the result was no answer. Now that I see a new slew the question is still open...

So...400 views and nary an answer. It's a simple question, I'm not asking how to install a turbo or how to stuff a 450 into a 250 frame. Is looking at your freakin' bike and reporting back really THAT difficult?!?

flitecontrol 05-27-2019 10:22 AM

No, it's not that difficult. Mine hasn't faded.

It's still glossy black. :rolleyes:

Apparently this was just too much to ask for, next time I'll ask for something far less complicated...like detailed instructions on rebuilding an engine.

flitecontrol 06-13-2019 09:59 PM

I saw a picture of one, but not sure if it was factory or custom. It appeared to be matte.

Shadow Shack 06-13-2019 10:24 PM

Yeah, trust me...if photos were really the obvious answer I'd never have asked. I've seen a lot of pics that range from appearing matte to gloss or at least hinting at gloss.

For example, this definitely looks matte...

...but this lighting hints to more glossy than matte:

Not to mention mine was sun-faded...remember all the pics of 80's red Rebels faded to that weird matte-greyish/red tone? (see pic) Which makes me wonder if history repeated itself with this color.
