|gyrojunkie||That would be a good start. A name an an address would be better. No need to be very accurate with the address I can navigate that town blind.|

After a day of high speed runs on I-5 the puke tube needs to be drained or it will back up oil in the air filter.
A great run you made there. Wish you had given us a heads up, the Old Warhorse may have tagged along? Will be headed to Mexico in November myself.

|Old School||sounds to me like the bike is or has been over filed with engine oil. The oil should be checked with the bike upright not on the side stand and the oil dip stick should not be screwed in but rather just sitting on top of the threads. Make sure the air filter is clean and to do that it will have to be replaced with a new one. Also drain the puke tube.|

Portland to Baja, 3500 miles
Hey all just got back from a trip to central baja mexico and back. It was a lot of fun. I didn't have too many problems... I was going somedays upwards of 450 miles a day and going 70 mph on I5 and it felt very reliable. Coming back north in cali it started hesitating and then would drive past first gear. I assumed that it was from the bad gas i bought in mexico (from a barrel) and dumped it all out and put new gas it. (that did not solve it) so the mechanic cleaned the carburetor and also undid the air filter. (the air filter was toast and was wet with gas or oil). I was also only getting about 60 mpg at the time. The mechanic charged me 280 bucks.
Do you guys think that the bad air filter was caused by dirty gas in the carb? I am suspicious in that it seems like my only culprit was the air cleaner/filter to begin with. I am thinking this because i connected in back up again today and it sounds like it did when it broke down...
Also should mention that it burned a lot of oil! I had to add 2 quarts throughout the trip. I checked the oil as the manual said, on kickstand and after its on 3-5 minutes.
