tabaka45 engine gets pretty darn hot without oil--hot enough to melt any plastic parts in contact with the engine

chiefchokesnpass Yeah I've spoke to jack before, it would be a lot cheaper to get a different motor. But I'm more or less doing it for the experience and in pursuit of knowledge. I'm still confused as to what the melted plastic around my stator and pulse generator or is from.

86 Rebel, ran dry on oil and over heated.

So i reckon it all started like 6 months ago, some guy cause a 4 car pile up ahead of and i had about 20 feet to stop while going 30 to avoid the pick up infront of me. When i attempted to stop the bike layed down and slid, throwing my ole lady off the back n i went down with the ship. Luckly we both made it out ok, but the bike leaked a small amount of oil for about a week. Than it stopped, i assumed it was cause she layed down and the oil sloshed somewhere it shouldnt and was draining out. Well fast forward a few months and its bike week, we go for a ride out to St. Augustine from Daytona Area. Ran great all day, well the ride home i got about 3 miles from home and we hit a red light. As were sitting i notice it rumble a little funky and i seen puffs of smoke coming out of the exhaust. Than she died. Never to crank again. Push the button and noting happens. I looked down the side of the bike and there was oil everywhere. Apparently the original accident cause a small leak and oil grime plugged said leak, than after a few hundred miles straight it warmed up, loosed up and dumped all the oil.

Since than i have removed the Enigine, Head, Cylinder, and one piston.
