Low oil pressure
Still happily riding my Sportster, but I still have my 450cmx sitting around. The last time I rode it I had issues with the low oil pressure coming on, unless the idle was pumped up to around 2000+ revs.
Anyway, it's stored at my work place. A few days ago I drained the oil, added new oil, replaced the oil filter and fitted another oil pressure switch. I still have the same problem so it won't be getting rode until it is sorted.
Short of taking off the rocker covers and checking for oil while it is running, has anyone rigged up an oil pressure gauge to these bikes?
I have a compression tester at home, but nothing for oil pressure however we have those gauges at work.
This all started last summer when I gave the bike an oil change, filter change, fitted open pipes and new plugs. Oh and I shimmed the carb too. After a day or two of this, the pressure light came on, and only goes off when given gas.
I am ok taking the motor out and splitting the motor if need be, but obviously if there is something more obvious going on here before doing that? Plus gaskets, seals and all that are becoming harder to source for these motors.
