First time poster and forum newbie. Be nice lol. So I acquired a 1987 Honda rebel 450cc. Previous owner half way thru a bobber conversion and has removed the entire wiring harness, which I have, and suggested better to rewire bike completely. The bike will need the following to be legal to drive on roads here in New Zealand (and I might be missing a few things): headlight, hi low beam, front indicators, rear indicators, rear stop light, speedo with night light. Would like to reposition the ignition into a box on the side along with starter button. I have looked at the wiring diagram and am very afraid..Where is the best place to start? anyone done anything similar. Things like fuse boxes, recitfier and the other wiring leads I am unsure about. I dont know history of bike and if it had electrical problems and previous owner said better to rewire. I might have bitten off more than i can chew but thought I would ask here first. Appreciate any help...
Im wanting to keep it as a bobber. Hope that isnt frowned upon. The wiring harness might be fine, its more about if we started from scratch what are the bare minimums apart from what i listed we need to ensure is wired up so it fires and runs as it should... I didnt explain myself very well.. Thank you for your help so far..And yes i know parts are scarce. Didnt put alot into bike so happy to spend on a rewire, but need to know what I need to do..
First you will need a wire diagram for the CMX450 which you can find on my Google Drive
suggest you peruse the 250 charging and ignition images even though 450 wiring is slightly different, the operating principle is the same.. these will indicate the bare basic wiring needed to start, charge, and run your Rebel..
The 450 has an additional marker/running light circuit to front signals the 250 doesn't have
If you run a jumper as shown in Red to speedometer lights both parking and signal marker/running light circuits are bypassed and can be eliminated.
