Lightbulb Turn Signal Indicator Problems

Has anyone here heard of turn signal indicator problems?

My bike didn't have rear blinkers so I bought some off ebay and wired em up. They have been working fine until yesterday. About a week ago my right front blinker wiring connection rattled off the bulb housing. So I fixed that. Then yesterday the same thing happened to the left one. Last week I noticed only my left blinkers were flashing. Rights would flash, but very slow.

Now last night I noticed when the right blinkers are on the left blinker is lighting up, but very dim. And the indicator dims when the right blinkers are on as well. I checked the blinker switch and everything looks fine in there. Then I looked up a schematic and noticed both blinkers seem to go to the turn indicator.

Has anyone seen this problem before?

Yes the signal indicator is wired to both left and right signal circuits..
When Right signal selected, indicator grounds through left signal circuit..
Vice Versa when left signal selected.. Quite a common arrangement..

Indicator bulb has a Much lower wattage bulb, it lights along with Right signals when selected while the series parallel ground provided by both Left front and rear bulbs don't receive enough wattage to illuminate the left side..

a ground problem in left signals can cause right signal not to work properly

Are you installing LED turn signal replacements or incandescent bulbs?

I'm sticking with regular bulbs. I don't much care for led lights. I'm stubborn and I'm pretty sure Thomas Edison knew what he was doing.

Thanks for the explanation of the indicator light. I now understand why the left rear was slightly illuminated. The schematic I have doesn't show the indicator very well.

I'm going to put another light socket in the housing for the left side now. I really like these housings and new blinkers aren't cheap. I'm thinking the flasher may be for led lights, and that's why they were blinking slow before the connection problems. Only time will tell. It has been too cold to ride and I've been busy.
