As many of us know, a lot of these manufacturers are using shunt type regulators/rectifiers and as a result, stators end up with too much heat and fail and need replacing. I'm considering replacing my OEM RR(regulator/rectifier) with a mosfet RR before it happens to me. This mosfet seems to solve the problem. It looks like my 1
996 250 rebel has the OEM RR located in front of the gas tank and in a place where it can receive a goodly amount of air cooling. I'm hoping that this location will keep it cool enough to prevent the RR from causing the stator to fail, and making it so I don't have to replace it with a mosfet RR. The question is, are rebel stator failures fairly rare, or is this something I need to be concerned with? I tend to drive 40 to 55mph most of the time and very very little on the highway. I also live in Idaho Falls, Idaho which is not a hot climate. Many Thanks for your input on this.
