Lightbulb High beams not always working

Hey guys,

I just got a 2007 Honda Rebel 250 and only have put 500 miles on it since last year. Tonight I had my first ride after a basic tune up. I only rode it last year after buying from a dealer...getting a brand new battery ( they sold it to me dead, didn't even last 20 minutes riding lol ), changed the fouled plugs today and the oil which was horribly black, should have noticed that last year. I don't really think the dealer did a tune up on it...despite the records in the manual. Heh.

But onto my issue!

When I sometimes press to activate the high beams, the headlight goes dead. Press it back to low beams and it comes back on no problem. Seems to be random like a contact issue in the switch. Any ideas? Should I get a new switch or see if I can clean the contacts?

Any help would be awesome. I love my new bike!

A member here recommended disassembling the handlebar switches inside a clear plastic bag. Keeps things from flying apart unexpectedly and the parts getting lost.

Keepin' all the left over parts. Gonna use 'em to build another bike!
