What's the biggest size tires you can fit on a 250 Rebel? I'm looking to remove the front fender and grind out those side bolts v where the front fender connectsv to. If anybody has pictures to go along with this, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance peeps
I actually just started a thread on this, and there are other threads covering it, but I'll summarize below. The biggest tires you can fit on the Rebel (just physically, not necessarily recommended for performance) are below. Keep in mind that this is mainly for looks. The rim isn't any wider and the fat tire affect is the sidewall ballooning out. The performance impact is certainly debatable. I know some people hate it, others didn't. My wife likes the bigger front tire. The Rebel turns in better, handles the crappy pot-hole infested roads better, and seems less susceptible to bump steer. But we only ride around town and her Rebel is just for fun anyway. So your results may vary.
So with that info:
Notes: The front fender won't fit, however you can use a 1985 Shadow VF700 fender with slight modification (see my thread) and it will bolt right up.
Notes: Will clear the fender and the chain guard with no modification. About 1/4" gap to the chain guard.
Notes: Won't clear the chain guard and is extremely close to the stock fender sides. Would probably need to remove the rear fender and go without or modify a fender to fit. This is also very close to the drum brake torque arm.
I have photos up on the thread I started about fitting the VF700 fender. We ran Shinko Tour Master's 120/90-18 front, 140/90-15 rear. I also opted for a 90deg valve stem on the rear tube as it was easier to get the pump on. The wheels were stripped down, bead blasted, powder coated in Ironstone Bronze, new All-Balls bearings & seals, new tubes & rim strips along with the tires.
With the 85 Shadow fender:
