Transmission problems!!!!!

I have an 07 Rebel 250. I replaced the fiber discs in the clutch and realized that the return spring for the shifter was on backwards. I flipped it back correctly but is there supposed to be a pin to hold it on? Also now I only have first and second gear. I need some help here. The shifter arm has the little spring but it's not catching the dowel pins behind the drum stopper plate. Help pleaee

Welcome to the forum

I can't wrap my head around how return spring could be on backwards
No there isn't a pin to hold it on..
the tab it presses against is slightly flared at top to keep spring legs in place..

With the small spring is in place the claws (for want of better name) should engage the shift drum pins..
is the slider stuck?

If the left side shift linkage is connected have you checked for proper linkage alignment?
