I'm not sure how the primary is setup on a rebel but on a harley twin cam I had the bolt in the center come loose, it made a rattling noise for about 5 miles and then completely let go and I had no power. I had to go buy a socket cause it was one huge bold like 1 3/4

A gear on the end of the crankshaft meshes with a gear on the back of the clutch, no belt or chain like some big bikes have.

Thank you all for your direction, I wound up having to pull the engine and split the gearbox, turns out the countershaft broke off...mystery solved.
