How many rings are there? Ring gaps are usually spaced equally. It doesn't matter where the first gap is (on a 4 stroke), but if you have 2 rings, they should be opposite each other, and if you have 3 rings they should be spaced evenly, like 1:00, 5:00, and 9:00. Never put 2 ring gaps close to each other.

There’s two compression rings and one oil ring and it’s a four stroke

So you have 3 rings total. Space the gaps of all three rings exactly the same distance apart. It doesn't matter how they line up with the cylinder on a 4 stroke. You just want the gap of each ring to be as far away from the other ring gaps as possible.
