I broke the main jet... need help!

Hello everyone!

I have a brand new 2015 Honda Rebel, purchased in 2016. I apologize for not having a signature. For some reasons, I could not find the signature link or button in myCP. I will keep posting my bike info under my post until I find out how to set it up.

I did not drain the fuel (and everything else) to winterize my bike properly. Couple months ago, I turned the petcock to "On" and the fuel started running out from the overflow (?) tube. I did some research and I believe the flow system got stuck due to bad gas residue. I drained the gas completely and poured a can of Seafoam in the tank, let it go in the carb (until it leaked), then let it in there overnight. The next morning, when I turned the petcock to "On" and "Res," gas ran out the overflow line. So the experiment failed.
I decided to take the carb apart and clean it after watching a lot of Youtube. I have never done anything like this before.
Yesterday I successfully removed the carb and took everything apart. I took pictures and videotaped when I worked.
I made a mistake, though. A huge one.
I was so excited I was able to pull the carb out after a lot of fighting with the rubber air intake coupling. I was so exciting, I used the wrong screwdriver to remove the main jet and damaged it. I was able to remove it easily later with a correct size screwdriver, but the damage was done. The screw slot is damaged but I can still screw it in and out. I think I can file it and it will be clean and usable.

For the last two days, I have desperately tried to shop for the part. Surprisingly, even the almighty Amazon does not carry it. It only has some listings with quite vague descriptions. Ebay have better offers:
Repair kit
Main jet 1
Main jet 2

My questions:
Is it safe to reuse the jet? (Or this is a very dumb question??)
Which eBay offer should I go with? Or, are there other places or stores I can shop for a reliable part?

The main jet (number 35) should be useable if the hole in the middle of it hasn't been damaged. That hole controls the volume of gas flowing through it. What's more critical are the various orifices in the needle jet holder (26) that break the fuel stream into smaller droplets. You can order individual parts from a Honda dealer. Just give them the long part number listed in the diagram below.

Sounds like the float valve (22) was stuck. Next time, try tapping on the carburetor bowl with a screwdriver handle before pulling the carb. Often, that will unstick the valve.

Thank you very much for your response. The part website is a lifesaver.
I apologize as I referred the wrong part (as I read from an eBay listing). I think it is the slow jet (#36).

The hole and the orifices are not damaged. Only the upper parts of the two sides of the slot are damaged.



But I do not know whether any debris fell into the hole and got stuck in there. Maybe it is safer to purchase a new one. I do think the bike deserves a clean, new good part, and I must pay for my mistake

I did the tapping, but it did not help. I think the flow valve (#22) maybe dirty and got stuck.

The slow jet's primary function is to keep the engine running smoothly at slow speeds. If the central orifice at the top isn't damaged, and it doesn't appear to be, it should be fine.

But if you think you must do penance, self flaggelate or buy a new jet. Your choice.

I think you're OK. It wouldn't hurt to try it. My guess is it will run just fine. Worst case is, it might not run so great at low speeds maybe, but if it were effecting performance, it wouldn't damage the engine.

I told my wife Flightcontrol recommended some flagellating and she yelled "It's my job"
I went to the local Heyser Cycle and place an order for the part. Awesome bikes over there. Fantastic parts lady.

That is what I believe, too. I agree with you.
The thing is, the bike is brand-new (I bought her new, but kept her in the garage for a while) and I was mad at myself. I know it's kinda psycho, but that's what I was going thru. I just placed the order for the part. I want to treat the bike as she deserves, you know. I could not settle until I placed the order. It's a little more expensive than the website Flightcontrol recommended, but it's cool to interact with the locals and their business I even touched a bunch of bikes over there. Pretty cool
I'll place the damaged guy on a stand in my shop where I can always see it.

BTW, if you don't have a hand impact screwdriver, it probably ought to be the next tool you acquire. They are invaluable for loosening stuck fasteners and not damaging the head. I don't recommend the Harbor Freight model as it tends to change direction with every hammer blow.

I cleaned and rebuilt the carb with a brand new, made in Japan, slow jet yesterday. I had to run some errands, and besides, the battery was not fully charged yet, so I did not start the bike until today.
She screamed right away at first, short start, and appeared to run much smoother. I did some fine-tunes, she became very responsive and powerful, I feel she's better than before. After leaving her running for a little while, I made a short trip around the neighborhood. Very happy!
