head gasket positioning

Hi there.
I have a 1986 rebel 250 and I am replacing the head gasket. I noticed on the head gasket i bought, two of the dowel holes diagonal from each other are smaller than the other two. They don't fit over the 10mm dowels on the top of the cylinders. Why is this? Is it supposed to be positioned a certain way or do i just have the wrong gasket?

Thanks in advance. I cant find ANY information on this and I already ruined one gasket and two dowels trying to put it on there. I believe I either have the wrong gasket (unlikely since I ordered two from two different vendors and they are the same) or that I needed to flip the gasket over to position it correctly (too late, already broke stuff. Ordering new parts lol)

Believe you are receiving 2nd gen head gasket..
2nd gen uses 2 dowel pins whereas the 1st gen uses 4 dowel pins and 3 o-rings..

oem cmx250 shop manual shows installation of 3 o-rings and head gasket..

I'd order Honda branded head gasket and o-ring part numbers from one of the parts houses..
