Carburetor breather hoses leaking gas

So I acquired this Honda rebel 250 2007 from a friend who didn’t want it anymore. When I got the bike, I would rev it and it would die. I took the carburetor off, took it apart and soaked them. When I installed the carburetor back on the bike I turned it on and revved it and it sounded great but then my friend yelled at me to turn it off because gas was leaking out of the breathing hoses. He told me that I could’ve installed the float incorrectly. Like the pin might’ve slipped in the float. The bike sounds way better but I now have the gas issue. I just figured I would ask you all if you had any ideas on what it could be before I ripped it back off

It could be that the float is sticking open or the needle is not seating correctly for other reasons.

Welcome to forum. Does sound like a float or needle problem

So I have to take it back apart. Crap. Thank you all for responding. I’m not a mechanic but I’m pretty handy. I’ll get after it sometime after the weekend. I’ll be out of town for a wedding. Do you think I need to get a rebuild kit?

You could try just tapping on the carb body lightly with a screwdriver to see if the float can be unstuck.

So, I tapped lightly on the carb when running and it stopped leaking gas! Thanks for everyone’s help. It’s running smooth now.
