A neighbor has a Rebel with 1200miles.:eek2: It has 2 dents on the tank. Other then that all is still good. It has been sitting for a long time still has original tires. It runs and I have driven it.

My question is how much $ is good for this bike?

What kind of problems should I be aware of?

Year/ 250, 450?

the limited is only '86 and only the 250.
How intact is it? you mentioned the tank dents but are the decals still there?

Hard call. If it wasn't for the dents, I'd pay a bit more for a nice example.
Do count on replacing the OE tires.

You are in California. Your state is really touchy about registration. If its not current, your state gets really nasty. That would affect what I would offer.
California emissions means it has a carbon can. Don't over fill your tank.

Personally. I'd think $1200, with clean title and no registration problems.
Any issues, price goes down, maybe way down.

$2000 would need to be pristine with fresh tires, fresh oil, fresh battery, and fresh brake fluid.

Find out what it would cost to register. Call your friendly DMV. Factor that cost in to your decision.

The CMX250C is the standard Rebel and the CMX250CD is the "Limited" Edition. Aside from the additional suffix letter the "Limited" VIN string is JH2MC132*GK0##### versus the standard model's JH2MC130*GK0##### string.

I use quotes because the production run isn't as limited as most sellers would lead you to believe. For example, they'll advertise "only a couple hundred were made" yet the VIN has four digits (re: thousands were made).

Granted they are getting tougher to find in decent condition, and those samples are certainly worth the extra price if you really want one.

No. The "limited edition" Rebel 250 was a special graphics/chrome/paint offering. It didn't cost any more that the other 250s, and anyone could get them.

Watch out when buying any motor vehicle with expired registration in CA. AZ writes off all overdue fees when a vehicle is sold. CA doesn't. If it has not been registered in a long time, there could be hundreds of dollars in fees due on it. All of that would need to come off the price, which might not leave much. I sure wouldn't pay someone else's late fees.

That would be a California CM250C (standard) model. IIRC CA was the one state that didn't get Limiteds...but I could be wrong on that.

If your bike looks like the one in post 4 of this thread, it's probably a Limited.
Honestly the only way to know for sure is by the VIN.

With platers and reproduction graphics readily available (there are repro graphics being offered on this very board as we speak), any Rebel can be made into an 86 Limited.
