1986 Honda rebel

I’m trying to find a value for an extremely low mileage 86 Honda rebel. It has been in the family since new and has never been ridden in bad weather or almost any weather with the mileage. It has absolutely no modifications other than a windshield which I believe was a dealer installed option. It is the 250 limited with the cooperish brown paint and gold decals as well as the accents everywhere on it with the gold. It is a little dusty from setting in the garage for 27 years and probably needs a new battery but I would have it professionally detailed. The mileage is 1196. What sort of value would you put in this? After reading numerous post and internet threads I would bet I own the lowest mileage rebel in existence unless they have one in a museum

I bought a 1985 rebel once with 250 miles on it. It still had the original gas in the tank.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but they aren't that rare. If it's in good condition, the low mileage can get a premium price, but that premium might be a few hundred over an already low base value.

I thought all limited 1986 Rebels were black - so maybe it had been painted. Would like to see some pics.

No it hasn’t been painted, it might be “black”
but with the shine in it I always thought it was a dark brown color to my eyes anyways. I’m not planning on selling it I was just curious if the value would be any higher as the mileage was low.

There are a lot of low mileage Rebels sitting in barns out there. People buy them, park them, let the tires rot and the gas congeal in the tank and carbs while the tank rusts. Then eventually someone decides to sell. Typically the new owner replaces everything, coats the inside of the tank rebuilds and cleans the carb and then the bike is ready to ride.

Rebels are not particularly collectable, even though the Limited was an attempt at making a "limited edition" model. A very nice low mileage Rebel that runs well would command a small premium over one in average condition.

Much more important to the value is if it is in running condition.

Just to footnote this thread, I am looking to purchase a Rebel 250 and in my search have come across many Rebels with <1K miles. And I've even seen more than one with <100 miles. I've only been shopping for about 10 days - - which suggests there are many more out there with low miles that will pop up over the course of any given month/year.

So, I will take that bet.
