Like the title says.
What thread is the cable end?
Is it a standard size or something metric?
I think 5/8 course is common.
Looking at a speedo from a Harley with 5/8 course thread cable....
I have a habit of going left of the "menu" when I build / re engineer stuff.
The internet makes it much easier though. I used to drive parts store countermen nuts.
One idea / thought is if I could swap out the retaining nut. I can Dremel the original one off., but getting the new one on is a problem.
I tend to think outside the box...
I was even thinking a guy could cut the threaded nut off, then push the square drive into the "new" speedo head and just heat shrink it to stay in place. Industrial heat shrink tubing is pretty strong.
Or my favorite is "I need part number A137-000"
Parts guy--"What year is your car?" "What model is your car?"
Me-- "Doesn't matter. "I need part number A137-000"
Parts guy. "What make is your car? "What color is the drivers seat?""
Me--" It's not for my car, it's for my lawnmower"
Parts guy gives a tilted head, puzzled look. Then melts like the witch in Wizard of Oz........
Me---Grumbles, gets frustrated and buys it from ebay dude in China. Only question he asks is, "What color is your money?"
It's almost funny. I can buy adapters to put a metric speedo on a Harley all day for under $10.
But I can't find one to put the "better/nicer" Harley speedo on a metric bike.
