I have a 2015 Rebel and ride in the SE Texas area. I was doing my 4k service. The bike has been running great. No complaints. I was noticing that the spark plugs are showing more white than chocolate brown. I am trying to figure out a cooler plug. I have been running Denso U20FSR-U plugs. The Denso website isn't much help. Can someone recommend a cooler plug?
According to the (crappy) Clymer manual, these are the recommended plugs: standard, ND U20FSR-U or NGK CR6HSA; extended high speed riding, ND U22FSR-U and NGK CR7HSA. So you have the correct plug, and that shouldn't be causing it to burn lean. Have you modified the carb, air filter or exhaust in any way?
87 octane, I have done no engine modifications. The bike was purchased in Houston, so it should be jetted for near sea level.
I opened up the gap some and they got a little browner, but still a lighter than I would like.
87 is fine. Are you checking the plugs by riding the bike until the engine is completely warmed up and at highway speed, pulling in the clutch lever, hitting the kill switch, and coasting to a stop? That's the way to check them.
Rebels are set up to run on the lean side for emissions compliance. You could rejet a little richer, but aside from making more unburned hydrocarbons. I don't think there'd be much practical benefit.
