1986 rebel 250 idles with high rpm

bought the bike and i recently changed the left crankshaft oil seal (took it off like 3 times and pushed it in using mutiple things because it kept coming out) then i emptied the puke tube which looked like it hadnt been emptied in a LONG TIME and now when i start my bike if idles high and sounds really really loud any advice on how to solve this problem? could it have to do with my seal?

It's can't be the seal. Have you tried lowering the idle with the black plastic knob on the carb?

That sounds like it might be the mixture adjusting screw.

For clarification the idle SPEED is on the RHS as you sit on the bike, the mixture on the LHS.

Don't mess with the mixture unless you are going to do the whole carb tune procedure (not complicated).

gosh no! don't force it

at it's furthest out point it won't be touching the lever on the carb - can you see a gap at the end of the threaded portion?

also... counter clockwise is slower idle right?

next thing to check is if your throttle cable is sticking

The cable may need to be lubricated. If it has begun to fray, it should be replaced.

Keepin' all the left over parts. Gonna use 'em to build another bike!
