How to rig a stock seat for a bobber?

I'm doing a bobber conversion in several stages for financial reasons. Eventually, I am going to end up with the BCB bobber seat kit. I need to replace dry rotted tires...not normally an issue, but I am fitting tires that won't work with the stock fenders, so for a short while I need to run the stock seat until I have $$ for the BCB kit.

I've seen pics of stock seats mounted to bobbers, just wanted to get a better idea of how to fab up a basic bracket to mount it to the bike without the stock rear fender as support.

I haven't taken the rear fender off yet, but it looks like it would be possible to remove the bracket from the seat, flip it the opposite direction then mount it to a bar/angle iron of some kind bridging the gap in the frame.

Any pics of homemade brackets would be awesome.

Since it's only temporary, look for a temporary solution: stick some velcro to the frame & seat pan.

Will that be enough to hold the seat in place for short rides?

I used velcro on my 85 seat before I chopped it, and since it wasn't registered/insured I was offroading it for the most part before I chopped it (including one decent jump with a fair bit of air time). Let's just say the velcro held up better than the top motor mount did in those riding conditions.



Having restored the bodywork after I had the frame work knocked out, the upper motor mount was replaced.

That’s good enough for me. Did you do all 3 contact patches with the frame or just the rear cross bar?

Here’s my incredibly low-tech “around-the-block-for-tuning-purposes” solution until I can get a real bobber seat.

That'll work too.

I honestly don't recall how many contact points I used for the velcro, it was over a decade ago.

"Ride Safe, Chop Safer" Motorcycles are not unsafe. However; they are extremely unforgiving of inattention, incompetence, ignorance, and stupidity.
Dismantling, sawzalling, and rattle canning does not make a bobber.
Those are STEPS toward customizing, not customizing unto itself.

Just dont let 'temporary' turn into LONGER than planned. It would be easy to have a piece of steel welded in where you want it- but I suggest you FIND the piece you want and cut it how it needs to be- THEN take it by a shop that will weld it on.

It's already got the BCB bobber seat kit on it.
