Non baggers, where to put documentation?

Guys and gals,

As far as accessories, the only difference in The Piglet and a showroom bike is, I have a phone holder and an AFR gauge mounted. Other than that, it is as delivered.

At what location could I store the bike's registration and proof of insurance? It doesn't fit conveniently in my wallet. The side covers require a screw driver, so unless I stash a screw driver, I'm not going to use those.

Any suggestions?

I store mine in behind the side cover (opposite side from air filter), along with owners manual etc. But that is because I have the full Honda oem Rebel tool kit in the central tool box. The previous owner just had a screwdriver in the toolbox, so he kept his documentation in there. You only need the key to open the toolbox.

The Rebel has a toolbox under the seat. It is a triangular tube that runs from one side to the other, with its cover/door opening up on the right side of the bike. The cover/door is located just above the right rear footpeg when it is in the folded up position. There is a slot for the key to go into it, you turn in the indicated direction to “open”, then the cover pops off revealing the inside of the toolbox tube.

It's part of the air filter housing. You can see the cover (#eighteen) in this diagram: https://www.cheapcycleparts.com/oemp...2e/air-cleaner

Not sure why I get this smiley when using one and eight together in parenthesis (1

Keepin' all the left over parts. Gonna use 'em to build another bike!

My 96 came with a velcro packet included behind the air cleaner side cover, but I have since relocated the paperwork to the aforementioned toolbox.

Well daggone! I have never noticed this box with a key hole / slot whatever. Gonna have to go exploring. Maybe I can keep my registration and proof of insurance in there.

Behind my left cover was a small plastic bag / sleeve stuck to the cover with adhesive IIRC. I suppose that's where the original owner's manual was, in that bag / sleeve. There was nothing in mine. I'm guessing the original owner lost it.

You can definitely fit registration/proof of insurance in the toolbox if it doesn't already contain the oem toolkit. The oem toolkit just barely fits in there by itself.

Yes, the oem owners manual should have been in that little plastic sleeve. That's where mine was and I keep it there along with the registration/insurance.

The sissy bar cushion on mine has a zippered cover. I flatten out the papers, put in a ziploc and slide it under the the front part of the cover

I was a bit uneasy about carrying my registration around where it could be easily found, so I hid it in the frame.. The main tube that runs down the front of the frame and connects with two smaller tubes that run under the engine is open at the bottom. I made a pipe plug out of hardware parts from the local hardware store that fits inside. The papers are rolled up in a ziplock, stuffed up the tube, and the tube is plugged.
