battery for 1987 250

Anyone know if there is a lithium battery, or just not unsealed battery, available that fits in a 1987's battery box??

Thanks!

Yuasa doesn't make one, but you might be able to find one (AGM or lithium) that fits the box. Have to admit I'm biased towards Yuasa. Every one I've had has lasted a very long time, like a decade or more. I bought one inevpensive Chinese made battery for another bike, and it died without warning at around 18 months.

East Penn/Deka are U.S. made AGM batteries with quality similar to the Yuasa, but don't think they make one small enough to fit the Rebel, but haven't checked recently.

If I had a first generation Rebel I planned to keep, I'd probably have a 2nd gen battery box installed to avoid dealing with a wet cell battery and the problems it presents.

Keepin' all the left over parts. Gonna use 'em to build another bike!

I prefer serviceable battery.. makes it easy to check specific gravity of each cell and add water as needed..
Yuasa YB9L-B batteries have served me well lasting years longer than one I bought from Batteries+

The mb9u sealed battery is correct size and terminal location for 1st generation Rebel.. have no idea as to quality..

I asked a friend who's dealt in DEKA batteries for decades to find an AGM for my 1st gen. He was surprised there was nothing except a wet battery at that size.
