It's not the change I don't like, it's calling a completely different bike something that it's not.

Change is adding a radiator & duct work to the 234cc parallel twin design. Change is updating the intake to FI. Change is updating the suspension to mono-shock and a triangulated swingarm. Change is having an ABS option.

Change is not taking a completely different bike and calling it a bike that got discontinued, a Camaro is a Camaro and a Cobalt is a Cobalt. These new bikes are not Rebels, they are CBR300 and CB500 variants...completely different platforms and about as far from Rebel DNA as you can get.

FWIW as I have maintained in this entire thread: take away the name along with adding some color and/or chrome and I like it.

"Ride Safe, Chop Safer" Motorcycles are not unsafe. However; they are extremely unforgiving of inattention, incompetence, ignorance, and stupidity.
Dismantling, sawzalling, and rattle canning does not make a bobber.
Those are STEPS toward customizing, not customizing unto itself.

It would be mind blowing if it was a 360° twin instead of a 180°.

I may have made this very same comparo somewhere here, or at least on another board...but this illustrates the concept perfectly.

The new Beetle is NOT a Bug, it's a Golf with different bodywork...just like the new Not-Rebels are the aforementioned CBR300/CB500 with different bodywork.

Oh, come on...it's not THAT bad. Nobody here is banding together and rioting in the streets while burning their own neighborhoods.

Besides, I would think that someone who proudly proclaims that blue is faster than black would have an objective opinion toward these YABOB models.

I don't understand why people can't just grow up and act like the adult that they claim they are, accept that the world and life changes and quit complaining about every little thing that does not go their way.
People are going to get that upset over a name? I would hate to see what would happen if something real happened in your lives.
This whole thing is absolutely pathetic.
Hell, my three-year-old is more mature and has more common sense than to piss and moan about something so trivial and stupid.
Careful...some of us have had VERY REAL things happen in our lives, and live with it every day.

Maybe you didn't realize: you are not REQUIRED to read this forum.

I have nothing against the bike, it may be great, but it is not a Rebel, and is so different from a Rebel, that it will create logistical problems for this and other Rebel sites from a purely practical matter. There will be some who embrace it and others who don't. Those who do need their own forum where folks can form a community of people who know the bike and how to work on it.

Maybe all those here will eventually learn about this new bike as more and more try it, but that knowledge will not be here to begin with. Maybe it would not be anywhere, but it would seem to be more likely that the expertise to work on the not-Rebel is on the CB sites, not here. I personally have no desire to learn about it, and will not be able to help newbies or others coming here looking for help. Hopefully others will be able to help, or set up a section for it. It may bring more visitors to the site, but it will add another complication in helping those visitors, and detract from the community already here.

We deal with the new generation/old generation, and 250/450 issues, so I guess we will figure out how to deal with this also. I just wish that Honda had continued to make the Rebel with some upgrades. Since they did not do that, I wish they had given the new not-Rebel a different name more appropriate to its heritage and platform to distinguish it correctly and eliminate the confusion that will follow.

A few months ago I was within minutes of certain death, and I have over $900,000 in medical bills to back that up.
How's that for VERY REAL?

Maybe YOU didn't realize you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

If you really want a name change that has validity to it the Hondarebelform should be changed to the Hondarebelpissingmatchforum which seems to be a better fit considering what is going on here.
Even the mods are jumping on the bandwagon, when for years they used to be a more neutral party on the boards. I find that shameful and embarrassing.

Almost as real as my situation. But I believe I said "... some of US..." which by definition does NOT necessarily preclude you.

I'm judging nobody, but your initial post was disrespectful to those who have valid issues with retaining the Rebel name. And it will indeed cause some problems with the forum moderators when the two bikes get mixed in the same forum(s).
