I use the search button, type in a keyword, and search, but I can't figure out why it gives me good results sometimes, but when I try the same search again, I can't get back to the results I had before. For example: I searched for windshields and got a long list of several pages of posts, but before I read all of them, I accidentally exited, and never could find that list again. Could you send a basic step by step note so I can find what I did wrong? Thanks
Yes, I've tried tag search, advanced search, searching posts and threads, and all combinations that I can think of. As sometimes happens with computers, it works perfectly sometimes, but I can't remember exactly how I searched when it worked, and I can't replicate it. Everything I try now, gives me nearly the same results, and not the relevant list of results that I found a couple of times.
The search engine on this forum really isn't very good. I've never had much luck finding exactly what I'm looking for without going through several threads to find it.
Is the person that designed the website aware that the search feature needs improvement? With the huge wealth of information already posted, it would be good to able to more easily find useful old information, instead of having newbies like me ask to have it repeated again and again.
Thanks, that's a great tip. I had seen and read several interesting stickies, but didn't think to look at them in different forums. After a quick check in other forums, it looks like it would be easier to find more relevant info in stickies than what most of my searches have yielded. Thanks for the helpful advice, as always.
It's always good to try "search" first, but if that doesn't get you what you want, go ahead and post. Unlike some forums, you'll likely get links to exactly what you want, rather than snarky remarks and lectures.
Thanks, you are right. This forum has the patience of an elementary school teacher, and that is the best thing about it. Other forums are generally so loaded with know-it-alls that newbies are too intimidated to participate. Another tip I saw somewhere that has worked well is to do a regular Google search which will often lead you right to the answer you were after in one of the forums here. I still think a computer expert could work their magic and improve the search feature here. Thanks, I'm learning more every time I check the forum.
The google search built into the forum usually does a lot better than the basic forum search. I'll say that. But I'm glad you got to the information you needed
+1 to the "Google Custom Search" at the top of every page. That's all I use any more. It's the same as Google search, just restricted to pages on this site.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
