I ride an '86 that looked very much like yours when I purchased it (except for the silver fender) mine had the brake fluid turned into chalk. Pulled it apart, carefully cleaned it with a soft brush, fortunately the line was full of gunk instead of chalk, so bled as I re filled, and has worked flawlesly for almost 3K miles (almost 11K on the clock now) Try to find out excactly where is it leaking ie cap, window, line, lever piston, or everywhere. If it's coming from everywhere, clean it up, pump it without riding the bike, and look again. You might just need a seal or a simple fix. If the part you need is hard to find new, you can call Jack 407-865-4101 and more than likely he'll have the part. You can also call him with questions, he is very helpfull with technical questions, and he won't pressure you into buying something you don't need. No I don't get a comission, YES I'm a happy costumer.

I thought it was silver, since I'm using the blackberry and the screen is tiny. Don't worry about the paint for right now, concentrate on your brake, in a bad scenario your life could depend on it.

You can try Jack's Rebel warehouse, 1-407-321-5242, or the Honda dealer (stealer) for a new seal kit for the master.
If you want to add fluid, you'll have to remove the cover on the box mounted on the right handlebar. Turn the handlebar to a position that makes the box "most level" and fill to the halfway mark on the sightglass.

Where specifically is it leaking? Between the body and cover, at the hose connection, or around the plunger that the lever pushes in (primary seal)? Is the '86 Rebel master cylinder plastic or metal. If it is plastic, it is possible for it to simply crumble up into dust, like the one on my '81 Suzuki 450 did. If it is metal, it will have a sight glass, which is another possible source for a leak.
The master cylinder can be completely disassembled and reassembled. I don't know if you can get a "kit" for it or not. If it cannot be repaired, you can get another one at a salvage yard cheap. Pretty much any Japanese master cylinder will work on pretty much any Japanese bike. I believe the one I got for my Suzuki came from a Kawasaki.
I would definitely replace the fluid, and pump plenty of new fluid through the system to flush it out. The front brake is the most important part of any bike. If you ride without a front brake, you won't live very long. Jerry.
