To best of my knowledge, no one has done it to a Rebel. At least not on this forum. I've thought about it before I got my 30T sprocket. It was recently brought up as a possible future mod. If you do this we would like to hear about your experiences, good or bad.

I'm considering it for a winter project. Either that or converting the rear wheel to a larger wheel with a disc brake. I'm pretty sure i'll have to have a new countershaft machined for the belt drive to work. If you decide to try it in the mean time, let us know how it turns out.

For me, so I wouldn't have to lube a chain every other week and have it sling lubricant all over various and sundry things! Other than that, no reason.

You should just be able to have something cnc'd that would bolt right up and than you would only need to find a belt that fits. It would take a lot more money than I would be willing to spend.

Just FYI... Honda made a CM250 in 83 or 84 that came with belt drive. I would suspect that the front drive hub would work without problems unless the clearance in the drive cover is different. The wheel hub however, I'm not sure about. You would have to either use the entire wheel or see if it is a direct bolt on to your current wheel assembly. Then there is clearance issues as well and selecting an approriate belt.

I would do a search on the CM250C's (microfiche maybe) and think if you could round any of these parts then you would have a good starting point.

Hope this helps.

OK, I've done the homework and it is the 83 CM250C's that had the optional belt drive. It appears this would be the way to go if the parts are still available. The only other consideration I can think of is you may have to pull the swing arm to install the belt unless I'm missing something.

Good luck...
