But for reals everybody. What is wrong with the tire I mentioned earlier? Are they only made for sport bikes? Or worse, a figment of my imagination?

It's just a bad idea. Cars have flat contact patches/shoulders as they don't lean. Motorcycles do. This is one suite of problems in waiting that's completely avoidable. If your safety is not worth the difference in price between car tires and motorcycle tires (which is wierd,'cause to me they're all expensive), get a different hobby. What's next, retreads?

Hey, many of us are retreads. There are probably as many retreads as there are new riders on Rebels. Maybe more!

Now you've got me thinking about retreading the automotive tire in 40,000-60,000 miles when it wears out. Think of the savings!!!
BTW, the automotive tire was about half the price of a mid price range motorcycle tire.

If this is the tire you referred to in your last post...those are typically sport/touring tires. No idea if they make one for the Rebel's rear rim, but considering the size of most sport tourer tires (170-190 series for 17" wheels) I doubt that is the case.
