That's the idea I was thinking, it could have a lever to lock it in place and then be lowered to get on the bike.

Corbin offers a "Rumble Seat" (not for all models though), which is essentially a backrest that folds down over the pillion when not in use.

It's actually more of a cowling that goes over the pillion, sort of like the supersport rear seat covers that snap on...except it folds down/lifts up like the old Model A rumble seat from which the name derives.

If they truly hate them, they wouldn't sell them...they should be happily and FREELY getting rid of them

I don't recall saying I hated my backrest.
I don't recall anyone in this thread saying they hated theirs, only that it sometimes can get in the way.
The folks that had them and didn't want them have sold them
