I've never used one with aluminum poles. I've seen other people's fiberglass poles break a couple times. Generally due to operator error. Easy enough to do if you are unfamiliar with the concept. Your's sounds like a nice tent. Mine is a cheapie, but has treated me well. I haven't put it to the monsoon test yet. When it's raining so hard that you have to spend all day in your tent is not the time to find out that it isn't rainproof.

Oh yeah, here's one I built out of cotton canvas. 13' diameter, smoke hole (full fireplace inside) sleeps 10 comfortably, weighs 150 lbs. withstood 6" snow and 70 mph winds. Not one for packing on the bike LOL

Thanks Cagie, I think the choice I made fits most of those tips? It isfairly compact maybe a little heavier at #6 but fair in the size department. I was not sure about sealing seams I don't think I would have to with my choice, I probably would have just to be what I thought safe but I don't think this tent needed that. (i was generalizingthe sealing from reseach). This one was supposed to breathe well too. I probabley would have sprayed waterproofing on it to so I'm glad you told me that!

Coleman PEAK is decent stuff, not something that I would use on a long hual, but good for what you wan to do.

Just be aware that those twin size air matresses won't fit. Personally I use a Big Agnes 2" x x20" x 72" matress and a thermal blanket underneath (use shiney side down in summer) to trap heat and keep moisture from wicking in. It has worked well for me and I have a bad back and knees. To inflate I got a 12v compressor, blows it up in about a minute.

I have yet to try motorcycle camping, but do quite a bit of backpacking. You've posted a lot of good information in this thread. For what it's worth, I use a Big Agnes Seedhouse SL2 and have one of their insulated air core pads as well. Sleeping bag is a Western Mountaineering Summerlite. It should all pack down extremely well for a bike trip if I ever have a good opportunity.

Nice tent. No offense, but that thing wouldn't last 2 months in the AZ sun. It would be rotted to shreds. I bought an $80 UV resistant cover for my quad, because it has to set outside. After one summer it is already coming apart. I'm going to build a small dog house type shed to park it in. Jerry.

I just lost a friend and old coworker who has been retired for 4 years We used to go camping in the Apache with our grand kids and I will miss her. I got my tent today and put it up. It seems to be great quality for the price! We put it up very easily, (no rivits so I don't know what that was about in the reviews). All of the above things it has! The alumunum poles are sturdy I like those better then the fiberglass and light too. I figure all the gear (air bed, air pump, tent. sleeping bags) I have less then $200 invested! So far quality is above what I expected! I also orderd mummy High Peak sleeping bags. $14.99 (sale price for most was $49) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT reviews were pretty good on those for the price and light too. To bad I did not get them in 2009 I could have gotten 2 for $20 from woot.com! Woot is great sometimes I have gotten great deals there!
