Is it okay to use a bike lift on a rebel 250 because the exhuast runs under the bike frame? And what size chain does a 1986 honda rebel 250 have is it 520h?

Don't lift the bike from the exhaust. I use a couple of 2x4s to keep the lift off the exhaust.

Chain is indeed 520 x 108 for the '86

It's safe to lift on the right side muffler as long as the floor jack is right below the mount. Half the weight is on the sidestand and other half on the exhaust. Just good enough to change a tire or lube the chain. The rear is so light you shouldn't have any issues.

Why lift from the exhaust when you can use the swingarm instead? Much safer and less risk of cosmetic damage.

Most people already have floorjacks. A piece of wood between the muffler and jack eliminates scratch damage.
I also use a swingarm lift. It doesn't work on the bobber tho because of the side tailight.

I was referring to using a floor jack just like you were. To me, it's a lot easier/less risky to slide it under the swingarm than trying to lift from the muffler.
