Rebel Kitty

I am restoring a 1985 Rebel 250 for my wife to ride. I have the air box but the air box filter assembly is missing. Through the Honda dealer the replacement original assembly is $$$, the newer Rebels have a disposable filter that is more reasonable. Is there any reason why I couldt use the newer filter system?
